Featured Cayman Chefs for 2009

Anello Crescente - Casanovas

Anello was born and raised in Papasidero in Calabria, Italy. His passion for cooking began at a very young age when helping his mother with their family meals became his favourite household chore. His formal culinary experience began in Yorkshire, Northern England and continued with a 15 year hospitality industry career in Germany and on to some of Bermuda’s finest restaurants. Finally, he decided to settle in Cayman as Head Chef for Island Taste for four years before joining his brother at Casanova by the Sea 11 years ago. Anello is very active both at work and play. During his spare time, you can see him practising his swing on the golf course, the tennis courts and on football fields. His devotion to cooking has led to 30 years of satisfied customers and praises on different continents. What started as a love for a humble chore has led to his involvement in one of the most respectable kitchens in Cayman.

He completed the Hotel Management and Catering Technology programmes in Trichy, India as the stepping stone for his array of culinary experiences. From there the USA beckoned and Andy studied The Hotel Management course at the American Hotel and Motel Association propelling him into the hotel industry with a four year stint at India’s most popular group of hotels, the Taj Group. The world renowned Carnival Cruise Lines provided an eight-year tenure as Pastry Chef. Andy was invited to commandeer Eats Café in 2002. With 22 years of experience in pastry, bakery and kitchen management, it is no wonder Eats Cafe has received winning awards from the “Best of Cayman” in 2006 and 2007. Here’s to a successful future!

Leofred Stull - Breezes

Leofred leads the kitchens of Breezes by the Bay drawing on 28 years of profesional culinary experience. Starting in Spanish Town, Jamaica, Leofred first learnt the breadth of traditional Island style cooking. He then expanded his repertoire in Asian and Latin American specialties, after which he moved to the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee, where he learnt about large-scale culinary operations. In 2003 Leofred came back to his Caribbean roots, helping to open the locally owned Breezes by the Bay, which he has called his “home” ever since. When asked about his favourites he replied, “The whole fish escovitch! That’s for me!” And for a quick ‘taste of the Island’? “Easy, Mon! Breezes’ Jerk (chicken) Sandwich. It is just lovely.” (Leofred did note though, that his wife feels otherwise, “For her, I have to take the baked pasta home” he said with a smile.)
