Cocktail Hour in Cayman
Cayman’s Cocktail Scene has undergone a sea change over the last year – restaurants in Cayman have always been at the forefront of bar culture in creating and serving inventive cocktails. October 2014 saw another successful Cocktail Week which was originally launched in 2013 by Jacques Scott & Company. This year Cayman’s Cocktail Week was a jam-packed week of sold-out events at restaurants across the Island.
Cocktail enthusiasts enjoyed boozy cooking classes in Bon Vivant’s show kitchen, a Don Julio Tequila connoisseur’s dinner at Agave Grill and a black and white movie inspired cocktail pairing dinner featuring Johnnie Walker Blue Label and Tanqueray No. TEN creations. ‘Gatsby’, a 1920’s themed cocktail party was one of the highlights of the week and had the whole Island talking.
Even if you didn’t make it to one of the big ticket parties, everyone still had a chance to sample drinks from special Cayman Cocktail Week menus in around 25 different bars and restaurants Island-wide during the whole month of October.
One of the highlights in 2013 was Simon Crompton, Agua Restaurant’s head bartender, who mixed delicious concoctions over the course the of the week. As the representative for the Cayman Islands at the World Class Bartender of the Year final, 2013, Simon has rocketed Agua into the World Class top 50 bars in the world. His signature creation, ‘Don’s Darling’, was particularly popular with patrons - see the recipe below to create your own.
Crompton’s success and Cayman's Cocktail Week are both sparkling tributes to the calibre of Cayman’s exceptional bartenders and their creative contribution to the craft of mixology.
